What is Grab?
Grab Holdings Inc., or Grab, is a Southeast Asian super-app company that started in 2012 as a taxi-hailing service in Malaysia. The company's founders, Anthony Tan and Tan Hooi Ling, originally called it MyTeksi but rebranded it as Grab in 2016 to reflect its expanded partnerships and products. Grab's goal was to make taxi rides safer and more convenient and to improve the lives of drivers, who are often marginalized. Millions of people use Grab for many moments in their everyday lives.
Grab's expansion has taken it across Southeast Asia, with a presence in more than 500 cities across eight countries. In 2018, Grab merged with Uber to operate in the region, and in 2021 it became publicly traded on the NASDAQ. In 2023, Fast Company named Grab one of the most innovative companies in the Asia-Pacific region.
