1. Speaker’s profile - Souliphone Dalavong

Souliphone Dalavong, or Lanoy, has recently obtained her master’s degree in Development Studies and Foresight, specialization in Global Development Policy, under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) Program, which was conducted in 3 different universities, namely, Palacky University Olomouc (Czech Republic), Clermont Auvergne University (France), and University of Pavia (Italy).


Apart from that, Lanoy has participated in many programs regarding environmental issues, climate change, and sustainable developments in ASEAN region and other countries. Personally, she has a great passion for art. She has been drawing and painting as her main hobby. She was a former marketing intern at Openfor.Co.


2. About the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) program


The EMJMD program is an international program, jointly delivered by an international consortium of higher education institutions. Both graduate students from EU countries and outside the EU can apply for the EMJMD scholarship program.

The program provides -

  • Up to € 4,500 per year for the students from the EU countries and

  • Up to € 9,000 per year for the students from other partner countries

  • Travel costs € 1,000 - 3,000 per year depending on the residence

  • Additional € 1,000 for installation costs if the residence is in a Partner country

  • Subsistence of € 1,000 per month (maximum 24 months).

3. The Master’s Degree Program Details (Global Development Policy)


  • Palacky University Olomouc (Czech Republic)

-In the first semester, the main area of the course will be the balanced overview of development issues from various disciplinary perspectives.(eg. SDGs, research methods,...)


  • University of Clermont Auvergne (French)

-In the second semester, the courses focus mainly on the quantitative and economic background.

  • University of Pavia (Italy)

-In the third semester, the main course is economic management and corporation, in addition, food economic and agriculture development.


4. The experiences and challenges of living in different countries

Students holding a student visa in a European country are allowed to travel to any country in the European Union. What a great opportunity! Hence, she got a chance to travel to France, Italy, Spain, Netherland, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Australia, Hungary and many more. Without even mentioning it, we can imagine how wonderful those experiences would be. That is the super benefit of studying in Europe. As we already know about how traveling benefits us, she mentioned some challenges which are

-It’s important that we are mentally stable to move to different places and adapt to different cultures.

-Communicating with different people without knowing their local language is a kind of challenge.


5. Tips and Tricks for applying scholarship


  1. Do research.

  2. Check the details of the program on the website.

  3. Be aware of the deadline and requirements for each intake.

  4. Be prepared for an English proficiency certificate, a good resume, motivation letter and a strong recommendation letter.

  5. Know your purpose and make sure it matches the program.

  6. Be confident & believe in yourself!

  7. Dare to try and don’t be afraid of failure!
